Right under a house in the Giza district, that happened to be coincidentally close to the Pyramids of Giza, an ancient tomb was excavated after it was reported that the house owner unearthed the tomb all by himself.
This statement came out from the tourism police on Sunday after they have arrested the house owner for illegally excavating antiquity, which goes against the law that clearly states that no excavations are to take place without the Supreme Council of Antiquities or the tourism police’s consent.
Many illegal cases, however, have been repeatedly occurring, as it has been revealed that the owners of the archeological sites barely get proper compensation from the government.
According to the Minister of Antiquities, two cemeteries have been discovered, holding five wells, two of which were for burial in Tuna el-Gebel archaeological area in Minya governorate. Those newly found cemeteries contained 40 mummies, 10 of which were for children.
