Ras Sudr: A Weekend Guide for the First-Timer

Loaded with Cairo’s unrelenting struggles, we all long for a short-distanced relaxed destination. Ras Sudr, a Red-Sea coastal town located on the Gulf of Suez, has in recent years come out of the blue to grant us this wish. To start, if you’re new to Ras Sudr there are several things that you need to be aware of before heading there.
It is not a place where you can unleash your wild, party animal side. You go there to unwind and let loose! You’re either a kite surfer who wants to relish in the adrenaline that comes with the beautiful sport or someone who is chill AF and loves jamming to Bob Marley. It is not a high-maintenance place, you go there to empty your head and enjoy nature in its true essence.

So, after giving you a very small glimpse on what Ras Sudr is all about, let me tell you where and what you can actually do there:

Waterborne Sports

Ras Sudr’s edge lies in its abundance of water sports. So if you’re considering a new water experience, you should definitely head there with no hesitation. Kite surfing is the most common water sport in Ras Sudr. Once you are determined and ready to go, you can take kite surfing lessons in one of the following camps: Soul, 360, Fly, 20 knots or Phoenix. With its established reputation, people also rush to Moon Beach Windsurfing center to cruise with the speed of the wind.

If extreme sports are not your thing, you can always rent kayaks in the aforementioned camps and absorb what nature has to offer.

Just for Your ‘After-Water’ Appetite

From one foodie to another, I should warn you that Soul’s superb American-style burger is a creation that you can easily actually get addicted to. With its puffy fresh buns and melted cheese, this extremely yummy burger will bring your taste buds to life.

Have-It All

You can obviously always eat where you’re staying but Ras Sudr’s Market, aka Souq, is congested with native shops that serve the best feteer, grilled meat and other delicious foods. You’ll also be able to locate drug stores, supermarkets, alcohol shops and basically anything else you might need.

Nightlife

Nightlife in Ras Sudr is usually more laid back but every once in a while, you’ll find a big event happening somewhere. If you want a chill party where you can listen to acoustic bands whilst having a drink or two with your friends, then Soul is your spot. If you’re looking for a more intense aura, however, put on your dancing shoes and set off to 360 or Fly. Just make sure to check their Facebook pages for upcoming events or you can wait for word of mouth to do its work.

Stargazing

Whilst Ras Sudr’s morning embraces you with its warmth, its nights will set your soul on fire. With a sky brimming with shining stars and falling souls (shooting stars), you can enjoy a relaxing session with the beach ahead of you and heaven above.

Nour Hossam

Nour is one of the most gregarious people you could ever come across. She literally loves everyone! She spends half of her life stuffing her face with food, and the other half trying to lose weight at the gym. Her shining example is Mulan because she would not hesitate to do anything for the people she loves. When she's not busy writing for 925 as a Staff Writer, you'll find her kitesurfing in Ras Sudr.
