Single-use plastics to be banned in Red Sea starting June

Following the catastrophes Marine-life is facing from single-use plastics, the Red Sea’s governor, General Ahmed Abdullah, will ban disposable plastics starting June. This policy will apply on all restaurants, coffee shops, markets, and even pharmacies. All plastic kitchenware will be banned as well.

The governorate of Red Sea will also ban production of plastic bags. HEPCA (Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Association) launched an awareness campaign targeting the dangers marine-life is facing. Their activities include clean-up campaigns for beaches and underwater surfaces. The governor’s decision came in response to HEPCA’s efforts in saving marine-life.
