How Stress Can Actually Work In Your Favor

I guess you haven’t met anyone yet who’s told you that ‘STRESS’, is actually good for you sometimes. Stress is usually depicted as the devil itself. Overlapping work deadlines, drama with family and friends and busy schedules, can sometimes drive you insane.

But in order to understand how stress can actually work in your favor, let me simply break it down for you. Stress can be identified as the feeling you get when you can’t get yourself to poise the daily challenges you have. Scientifically, it has been proven that there are several types of “stress” that people usually suffer from.

The first type is recognized as ‘distress’ which is an overwhelming negative feeling, usually temporarily, that consumes you, when for instance, you get your heart broken. ‘Eustress’ is actually on the other side of the spectrum and is considered a positive stress feeling you get when you’re about to kick off a new career or work on something you’re overly passionate about.

The worst of them all and the one actually giving ‘stress’ a really bad reputation is, chronic stress. Chronic stress is not something to be underestimated and professional treatment is highly recommended.

So, what kind of stress should you not worry about much? Eustress, it is and it can have a lot of upsides you probably knew nothing about.

It can push the wheels of your motivation towards reaching a certain end. For instance, the stressful feeling that takes you down before an exam, an important project or a sports’ competition, can actually help you focus and invest all of your energy on a specific thing before time runs out. Sometimes when you stress, you fluoresce.

Eustress can also be a great teacher when it comes to resilience and growth.  Stress can urge you to bring out your problem- solving skills, whenever you’re in a new challenging situation.  After facing your fears generated out of experiencing an unidentified challenge, you feel more confident and capable of going through any future ambiguous circumstances.

Finally,  life without the existence of stress isn’t necessarily going to be better. Stress makes you want to do things, achieve things and fight for things. If we completely brush off stress from our lives, we’d be giving up on a lot of meaningful moments. When you’re proud of something you have achieved, that’s because the road was full of speed bumps and stressful downturns that you managed to overcome.
