It’s early in the morning, you walk into the office, still half-asleep and you literally don’t want to engage in any human contact. You seek refuge in your desk and hope you can catch two extra minutes of sleep, then your annoying boss comes in. They speak to you about how they spent their weekend and their weird workouts and healthy lifestyle (if present). To top it off, they give you never-ending tasks that will literally take you as much time as watching the entirety of Grey’s Anatomy (spoiler alert: there’s more than 300 episodes). That’s it. You can’t take it anymore. You stand up, look them dead in the eye, and you give them one punch that will knock them out for days.
This sir, is how you lose your job, and most probably your freedom because you’re undoubtedly going to jail. We get it, you have a horrible boss; but instead of punching them, here are some ways to avoid doing just that.
Learn How to Cope
The golden rule: learn how to cope (aka kabbar demaghak). We know how soul-destroying the tasks can get, and how people tend to give silly comments just for the sake of it. Take all that in, and let it go; Elsa style. Learn how to master the art of playing it cool. Even if you’re pretending, you’ll force your way into this mindset and you will definitely disregard all the useless comments.
Take Breaks and Isolate Yourself
Another important weapon in your arsenal, and most likely in your pocket, are your headphones. You could use them to isolate yourself and listen to your favorite playlist, which will make you forget all about how ugh your boss is, and you can perform in serenity. You could also take short breaks every now and then, just to switch off for a couple of minutes. Go for coffee, go grab a bite with your best friend at work; just take some time off.
Try to Know Him/Her Better
This may seem cheesy, but your boss could be really nice, you just don’t like their work persona. You could try to talk to them on a friendly-basis; you could go out with your work buddies and invite them to come along. Go for coffee together or find topics with which you could both bond over. Maybe, just maybe, you’ll discover a nicer side in your boss, and that will ease up your life at the office
Leave Absolutely No Margin for Error
One smart and professional thing you could do, is to finish all your tasks to perfection, which means they should be flawless; therefore, you’d leave no room for any comments regarding your work. But don’t overdo it though, if you’re doing it just to shout “HAH! IN YOUR FACE” then you’re doing it wrong. Remember, you’re doing this to avoid unnecessary conversations, not to start another fight. There you have it, some of the best ways to handle that annoying boss of yours.
