Buseet: Competition in Transportation Market Creates Diverse Options for Consumers

Various economic theories argue that when competition increases; productivity, quality and efficiency increases. This might seem to be the case in a Utopian universe, but it is actually true in various industries. Various businesses struggle to enter the market, due to barriers of entry, but once they are in, they strive to make a name for themselves, and this is what Buseet aims to do.

Buseet Founder and CEO, Amr El Sawy had a vision to penetrate the Egyptian transportation market, ready to compete against market competitors, Careem Bus, Swvl and Uber Bus. The market is big but the company believes that they still have a lot of space to grow, with more diverse options, companies will try to optimize their efficiency and effectivity and aim to maintain their status in the market.

The bus booking app aims to provide it’s customers with convenient buses and enable them to reach their destination faster, by delivering them with the shortest and fastest route.

“We aim to provide middle class employees with better transportation means, as an alternative to public transportation. We provide them with higher quality, better treatment, reliability and professionalism; and at the same time offer fair prices in comparison to ride hailing apps,” El Sawy told us.

Competition is good for everyone, as companies aim to raise awareness and reach more customers to rely on their services, he said. Adding that it enhances the service quality and the fact that there is not a single company that can cater to the needs of Cairo’s overpopulation.

“A big chunk of our challenges is updating our  busses, drivers’ and suppliers’ attitudes, to make them produce optimal outcome. This is by making them more tech-enabled to cater to customers’ high expectations. Also, we are trying to focus on businesses and offer our transportation services to them, and we aim to give them a digital experience, unlike the manual service that is currently provide [in the market],” El Sawy said.

Throughout the company’s journey, Buseet received investments from several venture capitalists and angel investors from Egypt and MENA region. The founder believes that the company has gone a long way, and have learnt a lot from their experiences, as they “matched” with some investors while they were unable to seal deals with others.

El Sawy added, “In both cases we are learning and we are growing, and in the end providing better services is our main goal, and this is our 2020 strategy.”
