The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), in a press release published today on 29 March 2020, has announced new temporary measures on cash withdrawals and deposits for both individuals and companies to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus and ensure safe social distancing measures between people during those transactions.

As for banks, individuals can withdraw or deposit up to EGP 10,000 per day, while companies can withdraw up to EGP 50,000 per day (excluding payments meant to pay their employees’ wages and benefits).

When it comes to ATMs, the cash deposit or withdrawal limit is EGP 5,000 per day. And it’s already been established that banks regular sanitize these machines now.

Finally, the CBE urged Egyptians to resort to cashless transactions whenever possible and avoid using cash in the first place.
