With September right around the corner and high school grades coming out, a lot of students are drawing up their university plans. If you’re one of them and you’re interested in engineering; we have a promising full, four-year scholarship opportunity for you!
The USAID-funded Center of Excellence for Water at the American University in Cairo (AUC) announced the opening of applications for scholarships to study water engineering at the credit hour programs section at Alexandria and Ain Shams universities.
Behind The Scholarship
For those who don’t know what this is, the Center of Excellence for Water is a modern, applied research center at Alexandria University (AU). AUC established it back in September 2019 at Alexandria University (AU) as part of Egypt’s 2030 vision of sustainable development.
This was done in collaboration with a variety of US and Egyptian universities, US and Egyptian private sector companies and several ministries and public entities, according to News@AUC.
Among them are the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the Alexandria and Beni Sweif Governorates, the National Research Center, the Center for Metallurgical Research and Development Institute, the National Water Research Center, and the Water Desalination Alliance.
This particular undergraduate scholarship provides full, four-year opportunities to study civil engineering with a focus on water in one of the study tracks in the credit hour programs for water engineering at Alexandria and Ain Shams universities.
What You Need To Know About The Scholarship
The scholarship includes tuition fees, a student’s monthly salary, an annual allowance for academic books, and housing allowance for students coming from outside the university’s governorate. The deadline was initially May 31, but has been extended to September 15, 2020 with a total of about 225 available slots.
The currently available study tracks are the civil engineering degree with a water engineering track in Alexandria University, a civil engineering degree with water engineering and hydraulic structures track, a civil engineering degree with a utilities and infrastructure track, and a civil infrastructure degree with a water engineering concentration all in Ain Shams University.
The scholarship also offers free English courses and an assessment at the end that will be handled and taught by AUC. Alongside this, there is the possibility of interning at a leading industrial company; whether Egyptian or US-based. According to the program’s FAQ’s, there are 25 opportunities for internships in US companies and 75 in Egyptian private and public sectors.
It goes without saying that a huge part of university is exposure. Hence, students awarded with the scholarship may also be given a rather competitive opportunity to study abroad for a semester at an American university. Funded by the USAID, the participating universities are the American University in Cairo, Temple University, Utah State University, Washington State University or University of California at Santa Cruz.
