For some of us, reading is associated with school and university years when it was more of a chore shoved down our throats. But in all honesty, it can be worthwhile if you’re reading the right books.
925 recently wrote an article suggesting a long list of necessary reads before turning 30. There is so much more that needed to be included in that article and in fact, the list could go on forever. If you’ve picked up reading during the quarantine period, or if you’re trying to get into the habit of making it part of your daily routine, there are so many social media groups that give reading suggestions, and you absolutely need to be on them.
Obviously, there are clear-cut reading suggestion websites such as Good Reads, but there are other, less-known Facebook groups and Instagram Accounts that get their hands on incredible books too. Here are a few that we picked out of a pool of so much more!
What To Read is part of a bigger social media platform called “What To” that gives recommendations on everything from what to eat, what to listen to, who to donate to, what to watch and so much more. The What To Read Facebook group is basically a comfortable environment for readers to give one another book suggestions, exchange books if they’d like to, alongside the occasional short summary reviews.
You can follow “What To” on instagram too: https://www.instagram.com/whattocommunity/
2) BOOKMARK
BOOKMARK is also for sharing different book recommendations, reviews, and discussions, as per the about section. For people who are more interested in reading Arabic content, this group has a lot of interesting Arabic reading suggestions.
According to the page, it is “an attempt to help people find and share books they love, and to improve the process of reading and learning throughout the world of books.”

The Literary Cafe is a special kind of place for readers and book lovers. The Instagram page, and website is dedicated to reviews, recommendations, and the account owner’s personal favorite authors and favorite quotes.
The aesthetically pleasing images, excellent reviews and regular journaling tips and tricks, along with the account’s dash of positivity and self-love feel, The Literary Cafe is definitely a special platform for book recommendations.
4) Book Lovers
This Facebook group is a little more global and includes people from all over. People in the group share their favorite books and what books left an impact on their lives. At the same time, “Authors & Journalists are welcome to share their books or articles to seek feedback or reviews from the group.” There are some polls, summary book reviews and people can often ask for advice and publishing suggestions.
Instagram is a haven for so many book-related accounts; whether it’s recommendations, quotes or reviews. Folded Pages Distillery is one out of many of Instagram’s well-known book accounts. Perhaps it is the display of the account and its aesthetics combined with the suggested book reads that make it special.
Overall, social media is packed with book club groups, review groups, recommendation pages and so much more. There are accounts just focused on special quotes from novels too. If you’re new to the reading world, get to work, and start following as many accounts and joining as many groups as possible to have access to as many suggestions as possible!
