Music is a broad and diverse field to the utmost levels, especially in a country that loves art and music of all kinds – where you find fans of fast, high toned popular songs, old traditional ones, and even the updates in the music scene such as hip-hop, rap, and others.
Recently, the Syndicate of musicians took many actions that prove how they have no will to bend the rules for creative and new forms of music and what constitutes a proper singer. These assumptions came as a result of a number of banning decisions issued against singers who are named “the popular festivals singers” or “Mahraganat” singers and trap artists; which in turn, caused rage between the fans, online.
Lately, The Musicians’ Syndicate issued a press statement with several decisions to complete the follow-up to the file of festivals singers, in which it stipulated the prohibition of dealing with Marwan Moussa & Afroto, who aren’t members of the syndicate and did not obtain legal singing permission, along with Risha Costa, Mahmoud Motamad who violated the Syndicate’s decision to ban singing on Flash with informing All parties of this decision for cooperation and assistance.
Another banning crisis with The Musician Syndicate was that of Hassan Shakoush and Omar Kamal after their concert at the stadium and “Bint Al Jeeran”, where the Syndicate objected to some of the lyrics, which was described to be inappropriate. The matter has reached fines and bans more than once – and even after incidents with performers like Hamo Beek and Enaba, It did not come to an end after more than a year of conflict.
In the end, one question remains on the minds of many in light of these decisions; is this considered a ban on musical freedom, and control over the patterns of artistic creativity, even if it’s not agreed by everyone?
Is it crucial to enforce these laws on art in general? Or is this the right path that any piece of musical art must go through and follow? The idea of artistic censorship, in general, was disputed by many – between supporters and opponents, and those who seek to obtain a compromise by directing artists in the right ways.
