Paternity Leave in Egypt: A Necessity Or A Modern Luxury?

Paternity leave?

Earlier this year, Egypt’s senate rejected a proposal to grant fathers a 7 day paid leave to help look after their newly born babies.

However, we’ve recently seen some privately owned businesses announce granting their male employees the leave in question.

So, the question still lingers…Does new Egyptian fathers own the right to a paid leave?

Lithuania for instance, allows fathers with new borns a 30 day partly-paid leave. While the U.S, has no official policy on the matter.

Countries against such law claim it might harm their economy, while others simply believe that each culture has its circumstances.

Few years back, we never heard the term “paternity leave” but due to the shift of economic needs and the dual financial responsibility that falls on each household, more work laws flexibility are being called for.

What’s your opinion on the matter?
