Egypt is experiencing a rapid increase in its aging population, with individuals aged 65 and over now accounting for more than 8% of the total population, approximately 7.4 million people, as reported by CAPMAS. This demographic shift underscores the urgent need for initiatives that promote active and healthy aging among older individuals.
In response to this growing need, the Golden Years Foundation (GYF) has stepped up to empower older persons to lead fulfilling and healthy lives. The GYF is delighted to announce its highly anticipated annual “Walk the Walk Rally” for 2024. With projections indicating that the number of older persons in Egypt could reach 22 million by 2050, the GYF is committed to addressing the needs of this underserved population.
Since its establishment in 2021, the GYF has become a vital resource for older individuals, fostering a community of over 55,000 members. The foundation connects members with essential services, advocates for programs that promote active living, and offers a diverse range of virtual and in-person activities, including book clubs, a Golden Years choir, craft bazaars, trips, and wellness workshops.
Building on the success of previous events, this year’s rally will take place on Saturday, May 11th, at 10:00 am in the vibrant setting of Merryland Heliopolis Park. The GYF Rally promises a comprehensive and engaging program for older persons and their families, featuring live entertainment, fitness activities, resource booths, and delicious refreshments.
The Golden Years Foundation rally welcomes older persons seeking an engaging event and families looking to support their loved ones. Led by Dina Hashish, the founder of the GYF and a recognized leader in healthy aging by the UN Decade of Healthy Aging initiative, the Walk the Walk Rally aims to promote physical activity, social engagement, and community building among older individuals in Egypt.
