Looking for something to fill you up before your 9am meeting?
Too lazy to actually cook?
Oats to the rescue!
A jar of oats is the perfect solution to us hungry but sluggish, not-so morning people. All you need is a jar, oats, fruits and milk/yogurt.
The best thing about this easy oat jar, is you basically just throw everything together in your jar, and there you go! You’ve created a wholesome, filling, and delicious breakfast bowl – that you can even take with you to go and enjoy anywhere.
You can have your oats any way you’d like! Warm, cold, overnight, or on the spot.
The easiest oats jar you could put together in terms of ingredients is a simple Banana Oatmeal Bowl.
This recipe is for when your fridge is basically empty and you’re in no mood to get creative.
All you need is:
1 banana (or any cup of chopped fruits)
1 cup of oats
Enough water to cover your oats
Any sweeter (I use 1 tsp stevia)
And a microwave!
Just throw in your ingredients, mix very well and microwave for 1 minute.
With just 3 ingredients, you’ve created a steamy bowl to keep you warm.
Overnight Oats
Overnight oats are hassle free and avoid any pre-work morning jitters of meal preparation. This is a good option if you prefer cold oats, have no access to a microwave, and want your bags all set to go from the night before.
The key to overnight oats is to make them creamy. I personally use coconut milk, for a sweeter and healthier option.
The general rule of thumb for the overnight oats and milk ratio is
1 cup of oats
1/2 cup of milk
If you’re feeling hungrier, just double the quantity of both!
Super yummy add-ons to this overnight oats jar are:
Option #1: 1 banana + cinnamon
Option #2: 1 chopped apple + cinnamon
Option #3: 1 cup berries + coconut shavings
Feel free to decorate your jar with almonds or any nut of your liking.
I go for a tsp of powdered stevia for sweetness – it’s the best option if you’re looking for a zero calorie, plant based, and healthy option.
You could also go for honey for a naturally sweet taste!
To make:
Just throw in your oats first, milk second, sweetener third, fruits fourth and mix very well before you add your toppings. Finally, close up your jar, place it in the fridge and grab it to go before you walk out for work.
You could also put these jars together in the morning, and microwave them if you like your porridge warm, instead of leaving them in the fridge overnight.
Prefer an even creamier option? Switch your milk in for some yogurt!
I personally use coconut yogurt, as a dairy-free alternative.
Super yummy add-ons to this overnight oats jar are:
Option 1: 1 tbsp chia seeds + 1 banana
Option 2: 1 tbsp peanut butter
Option 3: 2 tbsp jam + coconut shavings
Feel free to decorate your jar with almonds or any nut of your liking.
With a few ingredients and just 5 minutes in the kitchen, you’ve got yourself an easily transportable and delicious breakfast!
No more hungry mornings and sluggish afternoons because you didn’t have time to prepare or enjoy breakfast. Take your jar with you and dig in whenever your tummy rumbles!
