The rapidly rising Egyptian tennis player, Mayar Sherif, qualified for the Main Draw of Egypt’s Australia Open today, January 13!
“It gives me more confidence that people are knowing who I am, how I play. And so it’s pretty much more comfortable to get the sport to the people, especially in Egypt.” Mayar Sherif wrote on her official Instagram account.
Sherif, the 24-year-old phenomenon, took down Serbian Aleksandra Krunic (6-1, 6-2) today in the final preliminary stage to secure a seat in the first Grand Slam (one of the most important events in the sport) tournament of the 2021 season. She is currently ranked 128th globally, and that’s the highest ranking achieved by an Egyptian female tennis player.
