When the byproducts of mixing two cultures together are delicious foods like Greek Zalabya and Green Burgers (AKA ta3meya), then mixing cultures we shall continue to do! Now, without further ado, we would like to introduce you to the German shawerma place, Doner Konner, that’s taking Cairo – more specifically Maadi — by storm.
It turns out that shawerma is a very popular dish in Germany but instead, it goes by the name Doner Kebab. Doner kebab is inspired by Turkish Shawerma and according to a representative from Doner Konner, the difference between Turkish Shawerma and German kebab is that the latter consists of ingredients such as tomatoes, cucumber, white and red cabbage, garlic salad and a wide variety of sauces such as mayonnaise, yogurt and garlic which were not originally a part of the Turkish cuisine.
It’s easy to see why Doner Kebab is garnering that much love in Egypt; they are incredibly tasty and insanely affordable in respect to their large portions. All this happens to be the perfect ingredients that make up a happy Egyptian.
