Working hours are the anchor of the day. Seemingly, everything else revolves around them. And that’s not good news since workdays have been as rigid as possible since the dawn of man here in Egypt. Innovative workdays and unconventional working hours are a thing of fairytales (and companies in more developed economies).
But Egypt’s thriving startup culture is bringing forth some revolutionizing changes to Egypt’s dusty work culture. One of the companies doing that is Instabug, a tech company based in Egypt with the aim of helping mobile developers build better apps.
“I’m not sure if they’re basing it on research but in my opinion, it’s refreshing and I actually get more done on my with days,” told us Aly Yakan, an iOS developer who works at Instabug when we asked them about their work-from-home day. “You get to work from the comfort of your home one day per week. But you have to be online and reachable during the Core Hours which are from 10 am to 4 pm every,” he elaborated. “The remaining two hours are flexible.”
And these flexible hours apply to everyday. Regardless of whether you’re working from home or not, you can choose to work from nine to five, from eight to four, or from ten to six.
With Instabug’s success in the market and increased employee satisfaction, will the work-from-home day grow more popular and spread to bigger corporates?
There is a lot of evidence that suggests that more unconventional working hours are very successful. They have been experimented with and proven successful in giant companies like Toyota in Sweden. If we’d like to read more about working hours around the world, check out our guide.
