Feeling motivated to go to the gym after work is really, really easy. But let’s face it, the let’s-go-to-the-gym excitement never leaves the idea stage, especially if you have a demanding job. You can pull it off for a week, but then you’ll find yourself diving in a trafficked work schedule that kills every hope you had to maintain your presence in the health and fitness world.
But don’t worry, going to the gym whilst having a packed work-schedule is actually doable. Here are five tips to easily fit the gym in your daily routine that actually worked for me, and will hopefully work for you too.
Make Time, Don’t Just Find Time
Don’t depend on just casually finding free time during the day to go the gym. A lot of things usually pop up and most of us prefer to do anything other than going to the gym. For some reason, we can spend a whole hour goofing around, but we struggle to find 30 minutes for the gym. There is always time, you just have to dedicate from 10-30 minutes of your day to the gym as if it’s an appointment. Set in on your calendar and commit!
Be Realistic
Don’t expect to be hitting the gym everyday like you’re Aly Mazher or something; you have a job that can sometimes be consuming enough to finish you by the end of the day. Be realistic and don’t sign up for more than you can handle because if you keep on missing your classes or training time, you’ll be frightfully discouraged. Compel yourself to go once or twice per week (at least). It may look like it’s not enough but it’s definitely better than nothing.
Mornings Are Great For Workouts Too
If it’s gym time on the calendar and you find yourself drowning in exhaustion, go home, have a nice healthy meal and go to bed. Refresh your day with an early morning sweat session at the gym and you’ll be amazed with how productive and energetic you will be for the rest of the day.
A Short Workout Is Still A Workout
There is a growing rumor that if you don’t train for at least 60-90 minutes, then you better not exercise at all. Well, that’s complete and utter farce, my friends! Recent researches have proved that “a 10 to 15-minute workout, with just one minute at high-intensity, had the same benefits as 45 minutes of jogging.” I always say rumors are dream-crashers!
Eat Healthy, But Have Cheat Days
Even though it sounds very cliché, eating healthy should always be at the top of your list. If you spend your whole day eating heavy fat- saturated food you will not be able to move a muscle at the gym. You unwillingly become bloated and too tired to perform any intense movement. However, you can have cheat days (once a week is more than enough) where you can go for that Big Mac combo. You just need to remember that eating right and healthy will give your body the perfect amount of energy to exercise well at the gym.
