Scouring the streets of Maadi to find a new healthy lunch spot, we found ourselves at the steps of Self. Intrigued by the crisp aesthetic and lush greenery behind the glass windows, we decided to head on in.
The self-proclaimed health house and juicery describes its premise as a place to take time for yourself, to treat your mind, body and soul. Serving up fresh blends, sandwiches, salads and homemade milk and nut butters, ‘Self’ is a health-conscious person’s dream come true.
The little pop up menu, given to us by their friendly and helpful staff, was versatile and full of delicious seasonal ingredients.
We opted for the ‘Strawberry+ Banana’ blend comprised of fresh strawberries, bananas, oats, vanilla, coconut milk, chia seeds and honey. We also had ‘The Cobb Salad’ loaded with mixed greens, black beans, grilled baby corn, sweet corn, cherry tomatoes, cilantro, jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, cheddar cheese and tortilla strips. The dressing options were between a low fat ranch and a traditional vinaigrette.
We topped it all off with their deliciously creamy Greek Yogurt cups, satisfying our sweet tooth cravings.
“At Self, we’re all about realistic health food choices. We believe that it’s not healthy to obsess over your health, so we don’t. We believe you should take care of yourself inside-out and love yourself in whichever way works for you. Self is a space to do exactly that. Sit back, relax and eat better,” says founder, Mazen Nadim.
