Fabric Hut: Art And Design Re-Imagined

The process of searching for good fabric with the design that fits your preferences is a hassling challenge. This is because it is difficult to find the combination of both aspects, as you get to waste a lot of time and effort searching, and hope you find something.

However, Rahma Badr saw an opportunity in this market gap, and decided to launch her online fabric store, Fabric Hut, as an attempt to resolve the struggles that people face, and at the same time pursue a career in what she studied in university.

“Fabric Hut is an uprising fabric store that uses a blend of art and creativity to design fabric, and all of its designs can be printed on any material. The store aims to push the Egyptian fashion industry forward, alongside helping spread designs on different products,” founder of Fabric Hut, Rahma Badr stated.

Badr is a textile printing, dyeing and finishing graduate who actually wasn’t interested in the field of studies that she pursed. After she graduated, she decided to do a career shift and delved into the field of graphic design. However, after she received her graphic design diploma, she decided to merge both fields together to come up with her very own product.

The store uses Egyptian and foreign fabrics in producing its goods and the founder is involved in each production phase of the products. “I buy a white piece of fabric and I print my designs on it, and as fabric is my field of expertise, I choose the optimum quality and material of fabric to print my designs on, to produce a durable product,” she added.

After the product is produced, customers and fashion designers can purchase the fabric, and tailor it to the product of their own choice, whether they want to use them for t-shirts, pants, dresses, or anything else.

Also, after receiving several requests to produce final goods, the store is starting to work on producing hoodies and t-shirts that they will start selling soon.

One of the trendiest products that the store produces is the reflective fabric, which is made by a base cloth that reflects light towards the source of light only.

“One of the reasons why I decided to take this pathway is because I didn’t like working in a regular office, as I really don’t like to have a daily routine that limits my room for creativity. However, I am in this all by myself, I am the designer, money supplier, creative director and marketer,” Badr explained.

This is due to various factors, as Rahma wasn’t able to find someone with the same taste and vision like her. Also, she offered some people to join her, but she didn’t feel that they were interested to join her, or they weren’t ready to join her at the time.

However, she plans on recruiting others on the long run, as she believes that it will be better for the business, and she won’t be able to do all of these aspects as her business grows.

She decided to challenge herself, as she believes that her passion about art and designing will help her gain rapid experience. Also, her graduation project was chosen as one of the best four designs upon 60 other projects, by Oriental Weavers, which gave her the courage to do her own work, and become independent.
