Distinguished Participation of Arab and Egyptian Artists in Cannes Film Festival

There are film festivals, and then there’s Cannes! The world’s most inspiring film market and the most magnificent tribute to Cinema! The 75th annual Cannes Film Festival, which took place from the 17th to the 28th of May, witnessed a distinguished Arab and Egyptian participation.

Egyptian Critic Ahmed Shawky and Egyptian director Yousry Nasrallah chair two juries during the festival! We have witnessed some very proud moments indeed! From being Chairs of juries and being nominated in the L’Atolye co-production forum to participating as ambassadors and supporters of women, Egyptians this year have got it all covered!

This list is in no particular order BUT highlights the very proud moments and significant Egyptian and Arab figures who have indeed made us proud during this year’s Festival.

Ahmed Fawzi Saleh

Saleh, the very talented Egyptian director, participates in the 75th edition of Cannes Film Festival with his film project “Hamlet From The Slums– هاملت من عزبة الصفيح”. It portrays the narrative of Ahmed, an eighteen-year-old living in a Cairo slum and facing violent urban regeneration.

This movie has been chosen as one of 16 projects for the Festival de Cannes’ L’Atelier program, which aims to “promote the birth of a new generation of filmmakers.

A filmmaker, writer, and producer who graduated from the High Cinema Institute in 2009. Ahmed Saleh Fawzy is truly iconic and best known for some of the best works in cinema!

Mona Zaki

The beautiful Mona Zaki stunned us with her statement dresses, whether the gorgeous black one or the 60’s inspired mini dress by Valentino!

She expresses her happiness to be part of Cannes for the third time. But this time is different for her, she says. Mona attended the 75th Cannes Festival as the official ambassador for L’oreal Paris in MENA. This is of particular importance to her and a significant moment for us. Mona has always been a symbol of ART!

Ahmed Shawky

WOW!

This is the first time in the history of the world’s largest film festival that an Egyptian critic has chaired THIS coveted committee.

It was announced that Egyptian critic Ahmed Shawky will chair the Critics Jury at the 75th Cannes Film Festival by the International Federation of Film Critics (Fiberci). Shawky will supervise the work of the three sub-committees and will take part in selecting the film winning the international competition award.

Yasmine Sabry

Yasmine Sabri definitely blew us away with her look during the “Celebration Of Women In Cinema” Gala hosted by the Red Sea International Film Festival during the 75th Cannes Festival.

Youssri Nasrallah

Acclaimed Egyptian film director Yousry Nasrallah chaired the jury of the Short Films competition, which sees the nomination of 9 films competing for the award for the best short film.

I have nothing against low-budget films, but they have to be big. I want to see the entire world in these films. More precisely, I want to see a world that I can only ever know through said film. A world that the director of this ‘low-budget film’ challenges, shares, embodies, discovers, and shapes for themselves.

Salma Abu Deif

The young and beautiful Egyptian actress Salma also attended the screening of “Triangle Of Sadness” in absolute beauty!

Tara Emad

Once again, Tara Emad surprises with her lovely bold looks. Her appearance on the red carpet was stunning!

Tarek Saleh

Egyptian-Swedish Director Tarek Saleh’s feature “Boy from Heaven” wins Best Screenplay Award at Cannes.

The story follows the son of a fisherman who is a student at Al Azhar. It depicts the difficulties and various occurrences that the boy encounters while learning.

It is definitely a must-watch!

Enjy Kiwan

Enjy definitely dazzled us with her look during the screening of “Triangle Of Sadness”, which she attended

Raya Abirached

Raya Abibrached amazes as usual with her beautiful looks and great carisma. Her look on the red carpet during the festival caught everyone’s eye!

Nicolas Mouawad

Nicolas Mouawad is the ONLY Arab actor participating in George Miller’s film “Three Thousand Years of Longing”.

Originally a civil engineer, Mouawad has definitely proved his exemplary acting skills across the middle east!

The 75th annual Cannes Film Festival is like no other! Having witnessed this great number of Egyptians and Arabs has indeed made us all proud and inspired!

This is for all the filmmakers, young directors, and anyone whose heart is in the film industry, it’s time to show and believe in your work!

We have one of the best film industries out there
