I love Moroccan food and I could most likely eat it every day (although, my hips probably wouldn’t appreciate all the bread). Moroccan food is so diverse and vibrant in color and taste. The flavor combinations, aromatic spices and exotic ingredients make even the most basic dishes amazing. Here are a few of my favorite restaurants you ought to try out this upcoming spring break, if you’re stuck in Cairo.
La Palmeraie
If you’re looking for a place to satisfy your cravings for tajines, fluffy couscous and bastilla pies served with fresh Moroccan salads, La Palmeraie has got you covered! You also get to sit under their arched windows with a breathtaking view of the Nile. Giving you Moroccan feels, a belly-dancing show and live music add to the fun.
Marrakech
In the middle of Fifth Settlement, you will find Marrakech located inside Helnan Landmark. Their Harira Soup will literally heal your soul! You should definitely try their fish and shrimp bastilla and for dessert do not forget to have Moroccon Borek with some tea.
El Morocco
Their Lamb Tajine with prunes is to die for. It’s exactly like dining at a Moroccan family’s place. On the other hand, their Bastilla is a culinary masterpiece and the pigeon Bastilla is what they consider traditional. It’s basically, pie with a filling on the inside, very close to what we call “Feteer”.
Tajine
Tajine is located in El Rehab City’s souk. For all you vegans out there, this place is for you. For appetizers, try the potato salad, or the Moroccan salad. Their Tajines are mouthwatering, a dish worthy of the title. Their food is pretty affordable too, definitely worth a second visit.
