News has been circulating around the internet on traditional and digital publications like Al-Youm 7, Egypt Today and Cairo Gossip claiming that the Egyptian household products company El Helal & Golden Star had submitted a complaint accusing Starbucks’ trademark logo of infringing upon their logo’s copyrights. The circulated news also stated that the Egyptian Commercial Registration Authority responded by demanding that Starbucks changes their logo and that Starbucks – refusing to do so – filed a lawsuit before Egypt’s Administrative court while emphasizing that the Egyptian Commercial Registration Authority comes in violation to proper legal violations and reason.
Today, 925 got in touch with one of El-Helal & Golden Star Company’s board members, Omar Helal, and was issued a statement by the owner and the Chairman of the company’s board, Walid Helal. The statement read as follows:
“EL-Helal & Golden Star Company Confirms that this article is incorrect and that the company has not filed any legal action against Starbucks chain. So we strongly request to delete this false article immediately because of negative publicity to our company.”
We’re still looking into the matter to understand how the news spurred into existence.
