How Does WFP Supports Refugees?

Hafsa, a Sudanese refugee mother of four, fled conflict in search of safety. Now, she may soon lose her only source of food support and she is one of hundreds of thousands at risk. By August 2025, the United Nations World Food Programme in Egypt might be forced to suspend food assistance to 235,000 refugees and people affected by crisis due to severe funding shortages.

WFP in Egypt confirms that without urgent funding, hundreds of thousands of vulnerable refugee families — mostly women and children — may be unable to meet even their most basic food needs.
WFP Egypt’s #NowNotLater campaign calls on donors and partners for support now to help prevent this crisis and protect the most vulnerable.

WFP has been supporting refugees in Egypt since 2013 with essential food and nutrition assistance. In parallel, WFP supports Egyptian communities that host refugees through training and assistance, fostering social cohesion and inclusion.

This support brings stability, dignity, and hope to families facing impossible odds. Egypt continues to offer a safe haven to refugees and people fleeing crisis, and WFP is grateful to the Government of Egypt for its support and partnership in reaching those most in need.
