Tips to Keep Your Fitness Goals Attainable

If you’ve been paying any attention to the annual “New Year, New You” crap, January probably sounds like the best month to start a fitness routine. But between the cold weather and the crowded gyms, this time of year can be a motivation killer for even the most dedicated of people. If you’re struggling with a fitness-related goal, its ok, we can change that, together. Be proud of yourself just for starting somewhere and as usual keep moving forward.

Do Whatever Gets You There

Give yourself permission to ignore the traditional “rules” and listen to your own motivations. Some days, you might jump on the elliptical ready feel the burn, and other days you might decide it’s just a good idea to do some Pilates. Remember that there’s no right or wrong way to get yourself moving — it only matters that you do it.

Make Peace with the Workouts That Never Happen

Despite our best intentions, life can get in the way of pretty much anything. There are mornings when your bed feels extra comfy  and those evenings when your boss gives you that look that says, “Don’t even think about leaving on time.” Maybe you’re battling a cold, or trying to stay afloat during a period of seasonal affective disorder. There’s a little voice in your head telling you all the reasons you should get to the gym, but your gut knows that it’s just not going to happen. Don’t feel guilty but don’t let those negative vibes follow you into your next workout. Whether it’s a day, a week, or even longer, a break in your routine is nothing to feel bad about.

Go At Your Own Pace

Don’t let anyone pressure you to work out a certain way or live a certain lifestyle. Don’t do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable or overly challenged. Going at a pace that is suitable for you and your lifestyle will most likely be more sustainable than starting off with unrealistic goals.

At-Home Workouts Are Legit

If there comes a day where you are unable to hit the gym or go for your usual run, working out at home is an excellent option. There are many things you can do around the house that will still count as good exercise. Be it on a treadmill, skipping rope, running up and down flights of stairs, following a workout video or even just dancing!
