In support of Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the SDGs, the UNDP and Savola Foods signed a MOU with a focus on food security and climate change adaptation in Egypt, with the presence of H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation

To help advance and enhance sustainable and effective practices in the food and agricultural sectors, the UNDP Accelerator Lab in Egypt and the Regional Innovations Center of Savola Foods will join forces to pilot cutting-edge strategies in cooperation with national and international development organizations.

The UNDP is placing Egypt’s agricultural sector and climate- change policies as a high priority.

Alessandro Fracassetti, UNDP Resident Representative in Egypt clarified that enhancing food security and adapting to climate change are two SDGs that the private sector may play a significant role in accomplishing. He stated that the UNDP hopes that through working with Savola Foods, other significant players would be motivated to engage in long-term resilience, positive environmental and social effect, and to view all of their company operations through the prism of the global agenda 2030.

In accordance with the government’s agricultural development policy for reducing the effects of climate change, Savola Foods Innovations Center will test the incorporation of climate-resilient crops like millet, quinoa, and sorghum into the production of wheat-based goods.

H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat also added that international alliances are required to reduce the effects of subsequent global crises, ensuring self-sufficiency and resilience, as food security is increasingly becoming a worldwide concern. With an emphasis on food security through collaboration, the MoU signed intends to hasten progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. The significance of the corporate sector’s involvement in advancing agricultural techniques, particularly in light of climate change, is further demonstrated by this alliance. Despite present global problems, the Egyptian government is dedicated to collaborating with the private sector and our development partners to ensure resilience and adaptation through creative solutions.
