Mohamed Shorbagy, the world’s third-ranked squash player,
have taken us all by surprise when choosing to represent England in matches after years of representing Egypt…
But what prompted Shorbagy to make this decision??
Shorbagy stated the following reasons for representing England rather than Egypt in his first interview with the BBC as follows:
He was treated unfairly by some people, and he wishes to fulfill his remaining squash years at a top level. He also needs a tournament team, such as a doctor and a specific coach at every tournament, where these things were not previously available to him.
Despite being the Egyptian with the most professional championships (44), he does not have an Egyptian sports sponsor yet!
We don’t know if his decision was correct or not, but we understand how difficult it was for him to make, and we hope he finds what he was seeking for in the coming years.
What are your thoughts on this decision?
