Using solar energy to power homes, offices and other establishments is a rarity in Egypt. However, JW Marriott has managed to make history as the first hotel in the country to embrace solar-power as its primary power source.
The New Cairo hotel made this wonderful green move with a financial grant that has been awarded from the United Nations Development Program, Green Economy Financing, Egypt-PV and the Industrial Modernisation Center.
Gree Solar, a leading solar energy company in Egypt, successfully completed a 150kWp roof-mounted solar power installation for the hotel.
“With electricity subsidies increasing due to Egypt’s subsidy removal plan, this is a really smart time to invest. Not only will the hotel see significant savings in electricity costs but they have also done a great thing for their carbon footprint which is becoming more and more valuable in the tourism industry,” Thomas Kean, Business Development Director at Gree Solar said. “Egypt has absolutely phenomenal potential with solar energy and it’s great to see businesses like this leading the way.”
We hope more hotels and establishments follow in the footsteps of the JW Marriott.
